There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is against the law. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that contains numerous amenities accompanying the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 tables.
